Title: OCCAM, The Open University mini-project report
Link: Project website
Download resource: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/media/documents/programmes/elearningcapital/occamfinalreport.pdf
Web service: XCRI-CAP 1.0. Note: this has been replaced by the XCRI-CAP 1.1 services: http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/feeds/ou-xcri-cap.xml; this is the 'native' feed direct from OU systems. There is also a 'value added' SOAP feed from the XCRI eXchange Platform (XXP), which includes additional information relating to the requirements of the Course Directory and other third party data aggregators: http://www.xxp.org/getoucourses.
Description:
The OCCAM Project for the first time gave access to the whole of the Open University's course catalogue in a standardised format: XCRI-CAP. It enabled authorised data aggregators to obtain the OU courses data more effectively and efficiently using a service oriented approach. We believe that this materially helps data aggregators to move from conventional paper or web-based record-by-record data collection to a more efficient bulk data transfer regime.
